Dewsbury Rams Mascot
Gets New Lease Of Life
Dewsbury Rams' furry friendly mascot
Roger Ram has been suffering over the past couple of seasons
from the wear and tear that has come from over 10 years'
service at Dewsbury. Fortunately, Roger has been given a new
lease of life this year by Eric F Box (Funeral Directors)
Ltd of Bradford Road, Dewsbury.
Edward and Andrew Box have agreed to sponsor Roger Ram for
the next three years, which has enabled the Rams to invest
in a brand new costume that made it’s debut a few weeks ago
at the Rams home fixture against Batley Bulldogs.
The new Roger Ram is an impressive, larger than life
character, standing at almost 8 feet tall, and he always has
a smile on his face! He is proving very popular with the
spectators and is collecting quite a few fans of his own
from the younger members of the crowd, and a few of the
adults too! Roger will be appearing at all the Rams home
matches from now on and many of the away matches, as well as
a number of community events and promotions that the club
are planning.
Of course, Roger wouldn't be half the Ram he is without the
man inside the costume. He's a long time Dewsbury supporter
who's given up his place in the South Stand to become part
of the show. He is very enthusiastic and is doing a great
job at bringing Roger to life and interacting with the
crowd, he's also gained superhero status with his kids!
The mascot is an important part of the matchday experience
and it's something we've been working on improving for a
while. This partnership with Eric F Box Funeral Directors
has given us the boost we needed to go ahead with a new
costume, which now looks fantastic and really stands out
around the pitch. He's got his own little fan club building
up and it looks like he's becoming a bit of a star amongst
the fans. He's going to be at the centre of a few projects
that we're currently working on so it's great that he's
become so recognisable in such a short space of time.
Edward and Andrew were guests at our Carnegie Challenge Cup
victory over Leigh Centurions, where they saw Roger for the
first time and they were very impressed by how active he was
around the pitch. They enjoyed their day and we're looking
forward to seeing them at more of our matches throughout the
season.
It's great that local companies are becoming more involved
with us and is another indicator that the club is continuing
to move in the right direction. We'd like to thank Richard
Kelly and Glenn Scott-Ellis of Independent Sports Marketing
for arranging this sponsorship deal with Eric F Box (Funeral
Directors) Ltd.
